Philippine Airlines (PAL) has selected IBS Software's iCargo, a cloud-based cargo management platform, to replace its current cargo system, an initiative the carrier presents as part of a broader modernisation of its cargo business.

According to IBS Software, the implementation will extend iCargo's capabilities across PAL's domestic and international cargo operations, supporting the airline's modernisation programme across its full range of business functions.

Domestic and international requirements in one system

IBS Software said the platform is designed to handle cargo movements in both parts of PAL's network, including international obligations such as:

  • customs reporting
  • settlement of duties and taxes
  • regulatory compliance

The vendor said iCargo already serves carriers with this same combination of demands, and that the platform is intended to provide the flexibility and scale needed to manage domestic and international flows together.

Stated operational goals

IBS Software said the transition is meant to address key operational requirements in PAL's cargo operations, including system performance and data analytics. In its description of the platform, the vendor said iCargo is intended to support faster shipment processing, greater reliability and end-to-end shipment visibility, while reducing manual intervention.

Airline rationale

Jason Siy, vice president for cargo business at Philippine Airlines, described the initiative as an important step in modernising the cargo business. He said that as the carrier grows across its domestic and international network, it needs a system that increases visibility, improves operational efficiency and supports a better customer experience, adding that the airline sees iCargo as a key enabler of its long-term cargo transformation strategy.

The announcement set out the scope and intended capabilities of the replacement but did not disclose contract value, a phased implementation schedule or a target date for the switchover.
